PHASE SHIFTING TRANSFORMER

Supreme make PHASE SHIFTING TRANSFORMERS are special transformers which provide convenient means to adjust phase angle (power factor) of A.C. loading circuit while testing power factor sensitive device for the full 90 degree LAG through '0' degree to 90 degree LEAD. Based on their rating these Phase shifters are manufactured in two configuration.
1. ROTOR INDUCTION PHASE SHIFTER CAPACITY 600 VA.
2. STATIC NETWORK PHASE SHIFTER CAPACITY 600VA & Above.
These phase shifters operate on three phase power and provide 3 phase or 1 phase output voltage with continuously variable phase angle. The control of the phase angle is made with reference to the phase and phase sequence of the supply voltage.

APPLICATION
Since the PHASE SHIFTER provides 3 Phase output voltage with adjustable phase angle, the same can be used in Laboratories and Factories as an accessory for testing Electricity Meters (KWH Meters), Indicating Instruments (Wattmeters, Power Factor Meter etc.) and protective relays with Wattmetric elements-Reactance Relays. It can also be used as a Teaching Aid in Technical Institutions to Demonstrate the operation of Power Factor Sensitive Electrical Devices.

1) ROTOR INDUCTION TYPE PHASE SHIFTER
This is a special type of transformer comprising of wound stator (primary) and rotor (secondary) similar to an induction motor. It enables to rotate the axis of the vertically mounted rotor winding with respect to the axis of the stator winding. The rotor can be turned one way or the other so as to vary the phase angle by means of a hand wheel and worm gear attached to the vertical shaft of the rotor giving a 60:1 reduction and extremely fine control.

2. STATIC NETWORK PHASE SHIFTER
Network PHASE SHIFTING TRANSFORMER is a standard testing equipment which convert 3 phase voltage into a 6 phase or 12 phase output with possible selection of phase angle in step of 60 degree or 30 degree respectively for 90 degree LAG through 0 degree to 90 degree LEAD (or180 degree LAG-0-180 degree LEAD). It also has provision for stepless fine adjustment to set any phase angle in between two adjacent steps of 60 degree or 30 degree range as the case may be. Thus, the full range of 0-360 degree i.e. 180 degree LAG through 180 degree LEAD is made completely adjustable.
In general construction of the phase shifter is similar to a phase conventional core-type voltage transformer with its primary winding connected in delta and secondary winding in star/ Zig-Zag network. The
primary supply voltage is 440 Volts, 50 Hz. and the transformation ratio unity.
